Today we discussed the very many themes within the book “The Color Purple”. One of the themes was “Sacrifice” and with that we talked about Cellie giving herself up to protect Nettie from any physical harm. We determined that not all sacrifices aren’t good, and that although Cellie was being forced to do everything that she encountered, she made sure to protect the ones she loves.

Why am I here?       Why am I here? Is it a choice of neglect? Why are the kids instilled with fear? Is it because of human regret?   Since then of my creation.  I did not understand my purpose. Which then triggered my frustration. Which led the children into being nervous.   With my hideous looks and furious hunger.  My sense of starvation began to rise. I snuck into their classroom eating and killing the younger. In “The Rockpile” by James Baldwin, this story takes place around the 1930s. This story includes many events and conflicts. The main one being when Roy disobeys his mother’s rule about not being allowed to go down and play on the rockpile. In result to him doing it anyways he gets injured by one of the other boys outside with him. Roy’s older brother John was the left in charge so when his parents find out he let him go down there his father immediately becomes angry at him. Even though his father is extremely upset, his mother comes to defend him. I’ve had this same experience multiple times growing up. My parents would ask me to watch my younger sibling to make sure they do not get in any type of trouble while they were gone, but yet they wouldn’t listen and ended up in some type of trouble or hurt. Unfortunately, because I was the one in charge I would be to blame for it happening.

As a reader I feel like I have strengths and weaknesses. Before entering Mr.Rease’s class, my weaknesses were that I never knew how to focus and be able to sit down and actually read a book without easily becoming distracted. But over time and since leaving his 11th grade class I have nearly mastered reading at a steady pace and retaining important information all at once. I use to procrastinate my readings thinking I could just skim through the chapters and all the information would be in my head, but I’ve learned its best to start ahead in order to absorb all details.
